Special Book Club Event! Author in Attendance!
The Park Road Books Book Club will be reading Radiance of Tomorrow by Ishmael Beah for their March meeting. The author will be in attendance. At the center of Radiance of Tomorrow are Benjamin and Bockarie, two longtime friends who return to their hometown, Imperi, after the civil war. The village is in ruins, the ground covered in bones. As more villagers begin to come back, Benjamin and Bockarie try to forge a new community by taking up their former posts as teachers, but they’re beset by obstacles: a scarcity of food; a rash of murders, thievery, rape, and retaliation; and the depredations of a foreign mining company intent on sullying the town’s water supply and blocking its paths with electric wires. As Benjamin and Bockarie search for a way to restore order, they’re forced to reckon with the uncertainty of their past and future alike. Book club participants will receive 20% off the $25.00 price.
The Park Road Books Book Club meets at the store on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Join us and Ishmael Beah on March 4th.
The Park Road Books Geek Book Club!
The Park Road Books Geek Book Club meets at the store on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm. Join us on March 11th. We will be reading The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks. In London, Maya, a young woman trained to fight by her powerful father, uses the latest technology to elude detection when walking past the thousands of surveillance cameras that watch the city. In New York, a secret shadow organization uses a victim's own GPS to hunt him down and kill him. In Los Angeles, Gabriel, a motorcycle messenger with a haunted past, takes pains to live "off the grid"--free of credit cards and government IDs. Welcome to the world of The Traveler, a world frighteningly like our own. In this compelling novel, Maya fights to save Gabriel, the only man who can stand against the forces that attempt to monitor and control society. From the back streets of Prague to the skyscrapers of Manhattan, The Traveler portrays an epic struggle between tyranny and freedom. Not since 1984 have readers witnessed a Big Brother so terrifying in its implications and in a story that so closely reflects our lives. Book club participants will receive 20% off the $15.95 price.
The Park Road Books Foodie Book Club is held at the store on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Join us on March 25th.The Park Road Books Foodie Book Club will be reading The Audacity of Hops by Tom Acitellias their book club book for February. In 1975, there was a single craft brewery in the United States; today there are more than 2,000. A once-fledgling, clumsy movement, craft beer has become ubiquitous nationwide and even includes a honey ale brewed at the White House. Powered by millions of savvy, devoted consumers and raking in billions of dollars annually for producers and retailers, the movement has changed the industry landscape and the international reputation of American beer, upended the big beer giants that once seemed untouchable, and altered forever drinking habits, closet hobbies, and bar conversation. But the epic narrative of this class of brew has never been chronicled in one volume—until now. Book club participants will receive 20% off the $19.95 price.
