Park Road Books Book Clubs:

Benediction by Kent Haruf

The Park Road Books Book Club meets in the store the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Join us on November 4th.

The Park Road Books Book Club will be reading Benediction by Kent Haruf. When Dad Lewis is diagnosed with terminal cancer, he and his wife, Mary, must work together to make his final days as comfortable as possible. Their daughter, Lorraine, hastens back from Denver to help look after him; her devotion softens the bitter absence of their estranged son, Frank, but this cannot be willed away and remains a palpable presence for all three of them. ext door, a young girl named Alice moves in with her grandmother and contends with the painful memories that Dad's condition stirs up of her own mother's death. Meanwhile, the town’s newly arrived preacher attempts to mend his strained relationships with his wife and teenaged son, a task that proves all the more challenging when he faces the disdain of his congregation after offering more than they are accustomed to getting on a Sunday morning. Bracing, sad and deeply illuminating, Benediction captures the fullness of life by representing every stage of it, including its extinction, as well as the hopes and dreams that sustain us along the way.

Book club participants will receive 20% off the $15.00 price.

Horrostor by Grady Hendrix

The Park Road Books Geek Book Club meets in the store the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Join us on November 11th.

The Park Road Books Geek Book Club will be reading Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix. Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Columbus, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring wardrobes, shattered Brooka glassware, and vandalized Liripip sofa beds. Clearly, someone or something is up to no good. To unravel the mystery, five young employees volunteer for a long dusk-till-dawn shift—and they encounter horrors that defy imagination. A traditional haunted house story in a contemporary setting (and full of current fears), Horrorstör comes conveniently packaged in the form of a retail catalog, complete with illustrations of ready-to-assemble furniture and other, more sinister accessories.

Book club participants will receive 20% off the $14.95 price.

How to Love Wine by Eric

The Park Road Books Foodie Book Club will be reading How to Love Wine: A Memoir and Manifesto by Eric Asimov. With warmth, candor, and intelligent authority, Asimov interweaves his professional knowledge and insights with engaging personal stories of his love affair with wine. In a direct, down-to-earth manner, Asimov discusses favorite vineyards, wine's singular personalities, the flaws of wine criticism, and current wine issues.
